St. Louis police officers injured while making arrest Wednesday night

ST. LOUIS, Mo. ( – Four St. Louis police officers were injured while making an arrest for property damage Wednesday night.

Just before 9 p.m., officers were called to the 7700 block of Ivory after receiving reports that there was a man breaking vehicle windows. When they arrived, the suspect attempted to run from the scene and an officer followed. The suspect ran to a residence and began kicking the door. When the officer approached, the suspect resisted arrest and a physical altercation began between the two.

During the altercation, the suspect and officer fell through the door of the residence, landing inside.

Several officers responded to the scene to assist with arresting the suspect, police said.

The officers and several children inside the residence ingested chemical fumes during the incident, according to police.

One officer was transported to a hospital for medical observation. Three other officers sustained minor scrapes and injuries during the incident.

The suspect was taken into custody after the altercation.

The investigation is ongoing.
