Ferguson paving project may impact Michael Brown memorial

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) - The Ferguson, Missouri, street where Michael Brown was shot by a police officer last summer appears headed for repaving, possibly impacting the mid-road shrine to the late 18-year-old.

Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III was to join Brown's father during a news conference Wednesday at a community center in the St. Louis suburb to announce the resurfacing and repaving of Canfield Drive.

That's where Brown was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson, touching off often violent protests and a national "Black Lives Matter" movement. Wilson later resigned.

The makeshift memorial to Brown in the middle of Canfield cropped up shortly after Brown's death and has remained. Knowles has said recently that the city would like it moved.
