ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -
A mother is accused of putting her three children in the trunk of a car, then driving around North St. Louis streets.
Annie Madkins, 31, is facing three counts of second degree child endangerment. According to court documents, Madkins was spotted by a man putting three children in the trunk of a car, then that witness saw the car drive away. Court documents do not say how old the children are, but residents living on Farlin Ave. where it allegedly happened say the children are very young.
“It's your responsibility to nurture them to take care of them and provide for them,” said Nyia Christian, a St. Louis mother. “So it does make you angry because they are children, they can't protect themselves. You are their protector.”
After getting the 911 call, an officer in the area located the car and pulled it over in the 4800 block of Natural Bridge. When the officer ordered the trunk to be opened, the children were found inside. Madkins reportedly admitted to shutting the children inside the trunk of the car.
On Monday, News 4 attempted to contact police to find out if the children were injured and to find out who has custody of the children, but received no response from police. Court documents make no mention of any injuries.
Madkins is now in jail on a $50,000 cash only bond.
