Police searching for suspects involved in violent robberies in Central West End

Posted: Updated:

Police are searching for suspects involved in three violent robberies in the Central West End Neighborhood this week, in two of those robberies the victims were held-up at gunpoint.

“I'm a little bit surprised to hear that,” said Matt Roi, who lives in the Central West End. “ I know in many other parts of St. Louis you see a lot of crime, but this specific block and part of town, I thought we were pretty safe.”

The two armed robberies happened Monday night in a matter of minutes. The first happened in the 4200 block of McPherson where a 25- year-old man was held-up at gunpoint while inside his car and forced to empty his pockets. Minutes later in the 4100 block of Westminster, two men were forced to lay on the ground at gunpoint after parking their car on the street.

“I am just watching out, being very careful coming in and out,” said Carol Williams, who lives on Westminster.

Earlier this week, News 4 told you about an attempted strong armed robbery that happened this week near the intersection of North Taylor and Maryland Ave. In that case, a man was hit from behind but not seriously hurt.

The robberies this week in the CWE patterns what has being going on in the neighborhood so far this year as robberies are up 64 percent compared to last year.

St. Louis Police are in the process of collecting surveillance video from the area to identify the suspects.
