NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A baby was inside of a car when a 24-year-old man was shot and killed in north St. Louis late Sunday night.

Ricky Robinson, of Florissant, Missouri, was sitting in a red car in the 2800 block of North Taylor when he was shot multiple times just before 9 p.m., according to police.

Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining gunshot wounds to the chest, abdomen, torso and extremities.

A witness reported hearing gunfire before discovering that the vehicle had struck a utility pole.

The baby was in the back seat and was not injured during the shooting. Police located the baby's mother and released the child into her care.

The investigation is ongoing.

This is the 62nd homicide reported in the City of St. Louis in 2015.

While police were investigating Robinson's murder, a suspect vehicle driven by Reuben Smith, 26, of St. Louis, leading police on a chase crashed into a police vehicle at the scene. According to police, the Smith was traveling on Kingshighway at St. Louis Avenue when an unknown occupant was firing shots at another vehicle.

The suspect was taken into custody at the accident scene.

No injuries were reported.
