Many say security cameras at St. Louis City Hall are useless

Posted: Updated:

Officials said the security cameras at St. Louis City Hall need to be replaced after they said the footage recorded when city hall had be evacuated was “useless.”

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson told the city's public safety committee that the cameras were not very helpful when there was a bomb scare April 21.

“The cameras here do provide information but probably not at the resolution that we are used to seeing because it's an older system,” said Dotson.

One alderman told News 4 he is unhappy nothing was done about the cameras long before the bomb scare.

“If a toilet didn't flush in this building, I guarantee someone would have said something,” said Alderman Joe Vaccaro.

St. Louis Director of Operations Todd Waeltermann said the cameras in city hall are 10-12-year-old. He believes updating the cameras will cost $75,000 and should be up and running in July.

Dotson said security measures were reviewed after the bomb scare.
