MEHLVILLE, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A large fight led to shots being fired outside of a Mehlville apartment complex early Tuesday morning.

According to officers, neighbors called police after an altercation began in the 1000 block of Adworth Drive in Mehlville just after 12:40 a.m. While on the phone with officers, the neighbors reported hearing gunshots in the area.

When police arrived at the scene, they began searching for the parties responsible for the altercation. Police believe that one of the suspects ran through a nearby apartment building after the shots were fired.

A sergeant at the search scene told News 4 the incident began as a domestic dispute. He said a boyfriend was mad at his girlfriend because she had been at the complex with another guy.

Several shots were fired at the scene and at least one car sustained bullet damage.

At least one person of interest has been identified, according to police.

No injuries were reported.
