Teenager found dead when authorities respond to party complaint at hotel

Morse Mill, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A 17-year-old girl was found dead at a party with several hundred attendees at the Morse Mill Hotel in Jefferson County late Saturday night.

"All of a sudden, this kid comes running up with a phone, saying 'I've got 911 on the line, my girlfriend just passed out,'" said Rusty Hoppins, who was performing when the girl collapsed in the crowd. "There was a mad scramble to try and get some help for this girl."

A witness said police arrived quickly after the girl collapsed, but it took 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. The delay in the arrival of the ambulance caused some to question whether the girl could have been saved if EMTs had gotten to the hotel more quickly.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the Morse Mill Hotel for a party complaint shortly before 9:30 p.m. The hotel is used for ghost tours and is also rented out for small concerts, like Saturday night's party, which featured a live DJ.

Deputies found the teenage girl unconscious and not breathing on the ground at the rear of the hotel. Officers attempted CPR and life-saving measures until EMS responded to take the girl to an area hospital.

The 17-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

"If the emergency personnel were quicker to respond, maybe the girl could have been saved," said Hoppins.

The teenager's cause of death has not been released. Authorities said they do not suspect foul play.

The party was safely dispersed by authorities.
