Hundreds of volunteers help remodel homes in St. Louis for free

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – Dozens of St. Louis homeowners were able to see their homes upgraded thanks to hundreds of volunteers.

Volunteers fanned out across the St. Louis area to offer free repairs to homeowners. At one home in Ferguson, the owner is extremely grateful for the help.

“I can hear them, smell them, and feel them,” laughed Broderick Taylor who is blind. Workers not only upgraded his home in basic ways, they also installed special features specifically suited for him.

“We're doing projects such as [installing a] disability toilet, vanity, and a security fence around the property,” said Tim Vollinger, Captain of “Rebuilding Together- St. Louis.”

Many of the homeowners who received help were disabled, elderly, or low-income. Volunteers worked on 45 homes under the guidance of more than 100 union electrical contractors.

“Rebuilding Together- St. Louis” is part of a national organization.
