Toddler shot in St. Louis prompts new anti-violence campaign

Posted: Updated:
Community leaders are stepping up to help stop violence in north St. Louis City after a 3-year-old boy was shot Friday night.

The incident happened in O'Fallon Park after three women were arguing with the another woman. As the three women drove away, the fourth woman began shooting at them. Along with the three women and the 3-year-old, a 3-month-old girl was also in the vehicle. She was not injured. The toddler suffered a graze wound to the buttocks and is in stable condition.

No one else was injured during the incident.

"We do need to stop killing each other," said Janis Hutchinson, a resident of the area. "Our community is out of control. We have children dying."

The organization Better Family Life hopes churches can help with an aggressive new anti-violence campaign. Various churches will take on a five-to-seven block radius, providing door-to-door outreach with information on employment, drug treatment, and legal assistance in the hopes of stopping violence across the city.

The investigation in the shooting of the 3-year-old is ongoing.
