Cameras added to Metro East park to help curb crime

Posted: Updated:

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Police in Farivew Heights are turning to surveillance cameras to help keep the city's park safe.

Police in the area say crime is usually limited to vandalism and theft but the cameras are being looked at as an added safety element for the community and officers.

The cameras give officers the ability to monitor the parks from inside a command center.

According to police, signs will be posted in the city's two main parks and will let people know the cameras are there.

The new surveillance system was funded using drug seizure money.
