DAMIANSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Officials say an Iowa man has died after falling while painting a water tower with a work crew in the southern Illinois town of Damiansville.

The Clinton County coroner's office identified the victim of the Monday afternoon accident as 31-year-old Dustin L. Spilman of Ventura, Iowa. The Belleville News-Democrat  reports he was part of a crew from Elgin, Iowa, hired to paint the water tower.

The coroner says workers notified sheriff's deputies just before 2 p.m. Monday. Spilman was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese.

Coroner Phillip Moss says Spilman was apparently working his way to the top of the water tower when he fell. Moss says that's about 100 feet high.

An autopsy is planned Tuesday. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
