ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Authorities said a student brought a gun to a St. Louis school and handed it to security guard so he could go to class and take a test.

According to court documents, 18-year-old William Pearson walked into a school for at risk youth run by the St. Louis Public Schools and handed a security officer a loaded gun. Documents indicate Pearson handed the gun to the security guard so he could go to class to take a test.

In a statement, SLPS said:

“The weapon was confiscated during a search by SLPS school safety as the student entered the building.”

The incident comes less than one week after a student was shot and killed in a dorm room on the St. Louis Job Corps Campus on Goodfellow. Job Corps officials said they are increasing security and reviewing their security procedures.

Parents said they were concerned that no notification of the homicide was sent out.

“It could have been anybody's child and nobody knows what is going on,” said parent Mary Hart.

The Job Corps said it is also reviewing its notification system.
