NEW YORK (CNN) -- New York's iconic Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island are being evacuated after reports of a suspicious package inside a locker, according to a senior law enforcement official and the National Park Service.The evacuation followed a phoned bomb threat, the official said.Images on social media showed crowds walking on ramps to awaiting ferries.Approximately 3.5 million people visit the Statue of Liberty every year.The Statue of Liberty closed in November 2012 because of significant damage sustained from Superstorm Sandy.
