VENICE (KMOV.com) -

Firefighters said a house in Venice exploded into flames Thursday night.

The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency said the explosion occurred around 10:30 p.m. at a house in the 500 block of Washington Street. Firefighters from nearby towns were called in to help.

No one was in the house at the time of the explosion. The woman who lives at the home was on a camping trip.

Crews were able to keep the fire contained and away from neighboring homes. There were no injuries while battling the blaze.

The Venice fire chief said the explosion was not due to natural gas.

The explosion is considered suspicious. The fire marshal will conduct an investigation into the cause of the explosion.
