Burglaries near Missouri’s Wine Country increasing

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – As many as ten break-ins have happened in the last month along the Franklin and Gasconade County line near Highway 100 and Berger.

Police say it's too early to determine if the burglaries are related, but police say they could be since all of them have taken place in a rural area along the border of the counties.

One victim, Jackie Sparks of Franklin County, says her brothers' home was broken into and had jewelry stolen.

“It's sentimental jewelry that can't be replaced,” Sparks said. “When they [her brothers] came home after a day's work and just wanted to come in and fix dinner, they realized someone had broken into their home.”

Franklin County Sheriff's Department Detective Jim Briggs says they have gathered information and are trying to find out if there is a group working on the western edge and coordinating what officers need to do to find the suspects.

“A lot of our thefts, whether it's burglaries, auto thefts, or residential burglaries, there is a direct relation to narcotics, to heroin, or to methamphetamine,” Briggs said.

The investigations are ongoing.
