RICHMOND HEIGHTS (KMOV.com) -

Police believe a fire was set in a dressing room at the Macy's store in the Galleria to distract from shoplifting.

Authorities said the fire was set in a fitting room in the junior department on April 2. Police believe many different types of clothes were burned, vandalized, or damaged. Security personnel told police they believe the fire was set intentionally to distract from shoplifting

The incident comes after recent shoplifting cases where criminals have used pepper spray and kids to hide what they have done.

The damaged clothes are estimated to be worth hundreds of dollars. Damage costs have not been estimated for the fitting room.
