HIGHLAND, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A Missouri woman was visiting Highland, Illinois when she died of meningitis, Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn said.

Durham, Missouri native Elizabeth Schreck, 30, was in the Metro East for a cake designing seminar when she began complaining of a headache along with neck and back pain. Schreck visited a chiropractor to help ease the pain on April 14.

Officials said Schreck has been tentatively diagnosed with meningitis as a result of streptococcus pneumonia bacteria. Health officials said there are no recommendations for preventive treatment because it is not considered communicable to others.

Funeral services for Schreck were held in Lewistown, Missouri.

Anyone with questions about meningitis should contact the Madison County Health Department at (618) 692-8954 ext. 2.
