EUREKA, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A pair of burglars targeted a home in a quiet neighborhood in Eureka, but an occupant of the home on Heyden Drive did not let the thieves carry out their scheme.

Police said the two men broke into the home through a back door and did not expect to see a woman holding a .22 caliber rifle on the other side.

"She said she was in the bathroom, heard the glass break, went into the bedroom, got the rifle and stood at the end of the hall," said the father of the woman's boyfriend, who did not want to be identified.

The sight of the rifle alone was enough to scare the suspects and the woman did not even fire a shot before the men ran away.

"I gave her a hug and told her she did a good job," said the father of the woman's boyfriend, who arrived to the scene just moments after police. "She defended herself from harm and protected the house, too."

Police were able to track down the two suspects, Derek Harness and Joseph Griffin, who are now in St. Louis County Jail facing felony burglary charges.
