Lockdown lifted after suspicious person search near East Alton-Wood River High School

EAST ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) – The East Alton-Wood River High School was placed on lockdown Monday morning after reports of a suspicious person in the area.

Around 7:50 a.m., the Wood River Police Department contacted Principal Leigh Robinson that a suspicious individual may be armed and walking near the school.  After the call, Robinson contacted the superintendent and the school was placed on lockdown.

According to authorities, officers also entered the school to do a precautionary search.

The suspicious person was not located and the lockdown was lifted around 9:00 a.m.

According to the school district, the staff at the high school will continue monitoring students as they move around the campus throughout the day.
