FESTUS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A 21-year-old mother and her boyfriend are in police custody after the woman's 17-month-old daughter, Layla Fast, was pronounced dead.

When authorities arrived at an apartment in the 200 block of Timberwyck, Taylor Fast, the girl's mother, reportedly told police her daughter was bitten by a spider and was unconscious. When officers saw the little girl, they immediately contacted the Joachim Plattin Ambulance District.

According to police, the child had severe injuries to her face and neck. The girl also had bruising over most of her body.

Ambulance personnel pronounced the girl deceased at the scene and said she had been dead for several hours.

Fast said she did not know what happened to her daughter throughout the night, police said.

A 3-year-old boy who was also inside the home when police arrived was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries, then turned over to the Division of Family Services. Police determined the boy suffered a broken leg, which was allegedly broken by Fast's boyfriend.

The girl's mother, Taylor Fast, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second degree murder. Dewayne E. Boyer, the Fast's boyfriend, is charged with child abuse or neglect of a child in connection with the 3-year-old's injuries.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for Layla Fast's funeral. You can donate or learn more by clicking here.
