CARLINVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) - Law enforcement agencies in several Metro East counties are searching for a man they are calling armed and dangerous.

Robert McDaniels, a 30-year-old also known as "Little Bobby," is wanted by the Illinois Department of Corrections for a parole violation but police say he has been on a two week crime spree.

“We just don't want to see anyone get hurt,” said Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl. “He has victimized several people, several local businesses in our county.”

Sheriff Kahl says McDaniels has stolen from several Shell stations.

“The local gas station has a charge account and what he would do was say he was with that business and charge gas on them,” he explained.

But he said that's not all.

“We've found he's also making checks and trying to cash them,” Kahl said.

On Wednesday night, police said McDaniels stole a car from one of the Shell stations in town.

“There's been two different pursuits with him and we've failed to catch him,” Kahl said.

Now the businesses are on alert, posting his mug shot inside to warn of his scheme. He's a familiar face for many in town, but the sheriff says people should be cautious.

“I wouldn't try to apprehend him yourself, call the local  authorities. We want to get him back in custody, so he can't hurt no body, we don't want anyone to get hurt,” said Kahl.

Anyone with information is information is asked to call the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office 217-854-3135 extension 1 or to Macoupin/Montgomery Crime Stoppers phone 800-352-0136 or text a tip to crimes (2174637).
