(KMOV.com) -- Anthony Stewart is speaking out after he said he was poorly treated by the Caseyville Police Department.

“I said what are you pulling me over for? He said I can't see your VIN number,” said Stewart.

Police Chief Frank Moore said his officer noticed Stewart driving with bad plates and wanted to investigate.

“He could've been taken into custody and forced to pay bond,” said Chief Moore.

Stewart admits he was driving with expired plates from Missouri even though he lives in Illinois. Police called a tow company to take his car away.

Moore said he was left stranded on Highway 157 in Caseyville.

“It was late morning in a populated area with open businesses in the area. He's an adult who had already made arrangements for a ride to come pick him up from the location where he could have been arrested and taken into custody,” said Chief Moore
