ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Several people sustained injuries during a fire at a seven-story apartment building in north St. Louis early Tuesday morning.

The fire started around 3:30 a.m. at the Metropolitan Village Apartments, which houses elderly people and those with disabilities.

The first and second floors of the building had to be evacuated while fire crews worked to extinguish the flames, the top five floors were told to shelter in place. All residents were allowed back in the building around 4:45 a.m.

Six people were treated for breathing issues following the fire, three of them were transported to a hospital. Officials say all six people are expected to recover.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit on the first floor. According to firefighters, the unit was empty at the time of the blaze and they are trying to find the person who lives there.
