Police promise more security for Cardinals games

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said there will be extra police patrolling downtown St. Louis during Cardinals games this year.

“We've increased the number of bike officers. They are able to get into the parking garage to move a lot quicker. You might not see them but they are down here. Plain clothed officers who are riding around in unmarked cars checking on parking lots,” said St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson.

Dotson said officers are most concerned about fans leaving guns in their parked cars. According to Dotson, there has been a 70 percent increase in gun thefts.

“We've seen far too often this year that criminals break into cars looking exactly for your gun that you can't take into the venue. You certainly can't get through the metal detector with it. Don't leave it in your car,” Dotson said.

Extra traffic officers have also been added to help fans get home as safe and quickly as possible.
