Pedestrian struck, killed in hit-and-run near Fairground Park

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A man was struck and killed during a hit-and-run in north St. Louis near Fairground Park late Sunday night.

The victim, who is in his 30's, was hit around 8:30 p.m. at Natural Bridge and Prairie. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

Authorities are searching for the vehicle responsible for the accident.

Area residents say drivers treat the street like a drag strip and many pedestrians run for their lives when crossing the street.

In mid-March, a 65-year-old man was hit a couple blocks away at Grand and Natural Bridge and survived.

A resident told News 4 drivers not only go fast in the intersection, but in some cases actually speed up when pedestrians are in the crosswalk.

The investigation into Sunday's hit-and-run is ongoing.
