Storms bring damage to southern part of News 4 viewing area

( – News 4 received reports of hail and wind damage as a round of thunderstorms moved through the southern part of the News 4 viewing area.

Several people reported hail damage in Franklin County, including a mother and daughter who said their car was hit by baseball size hail on I-44 near Sullivan. They told News 4 the hail forced them to pull to the side of the highway in Stanton. Other cars were damaged by hail in Sullivan.

News 4 also received reports of wind damage in Potosi. The Potosi Independent Journal, a local newspaper, said the roof of a next door building was blown off. The newspaper also said it had broken windows and also said pieces of roof are on the sidewalk. A viewer also sent in a photo a tree that was damaged by wind. Potosi Mayor P.R. Dudley said there was also flooding, but no injuries from the storms. However, officials said power lines are down in Potosi.

The 4Warn Storm Team said someone reported a wall cloud and golf ball size hail in Bonne Terre.

Fire officials in Farmington said hail caused small pieces of the roof to cave in at an Applebee's restaurant. In a Walmart parking lot off of Highway 32, dozens of cars were found with hail damage. Reports from News 4 viewers showed hail ranging from quarter-sized to baseball-sized.

Both the Washington County Courthouse and Sheriff's Department suffered roof damage. The judge's chambers at the Washington County Courthouse are flooded.
