MOLINE ACRES (KMOV.com) – A woman running for mayor of Moline Acres was arrested on Election Day.

Moline Acres Police Chief Dwayne Ursin says Janice Jones was arrested Tuesday afternoon after she was apparently driving erratically, but Jones said it is all dirty politics.

“For [Mayor Michele Deshay] to use her office that way, and her police department for her needs and gains, it's absolutely horrible,” Jones said.

“The reasons for her car being pulled over was because of the call, for an erratic vehicle driving, it wasn't that we basically picked out Miss Jones to pull over,” said Chief Ursin, who disputed Jones' story.

Ursin said she was pulled over after they received an anonymous call of a silver van driving erratically and nearly hitting cars near the poll station on Edgefield Drive. The officer spotted her car and pulled her over. When they ran her plates they said she had an outstanding warrant in St. Louis County for a traffic violation and a suspended license.

“He said my license is my suspended. Suspended? No,” said Jones.

News 4 caught up with current Mayor Michele Deshay at the polling place where this incident allegedly happened to ask if she called police on her opponent.

“Absolutely not,” said Deshay. “I have no idea who called the police on Miss Jones. There is nothing that I have done with this candidate, with this resident, to target her, or anything else."

But Jones said she feels like Chief Ursin is working with Deshay. Ursin denies any of that.

“Our job is just to patrol and protect,” said Ursin.

Jones was charged for having a suspended license and was released due to medical issues. She will have to go to court for the charge.
