Washington University students on alert after armed robbery

Posted: Updated:
UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A Washington University student was entering his off-campus apartment building when he was approached by a man with a knife and a second suspect who demanded money.

Both suspects ran off after robbing the victim of money at approximately 11 p.m. Sunday. After the robbery was reported, the University alerted the student body about the incident.

"They told us while walking around on streets," said Ayan Mitra, a student. "Don't go in the dark corners or alleys in the night."

The victim's apartment building is part of Washington University's off-campus Quad housing near Enright in University City.

"I have two doggies, so that's pretty good. But, watch the news. Stay alert. Be out with friends, don't be out super late," recommended student Simone Pfleger.

Washington University has emergency call buttons on blue columns and security cameras in plain sight across campus to promote safety.

An 18-year-old man was arrested for attempted sexual assault a block off of the Loop in another recent involving a Washington University student.

The suspects in Sunday's robbery are described as two white males, both 5'8" tall. One was heavyset, wearing a cream-colored hoodie jacket and blue jeans. The other suspect had a medium build and was wearing a black, horizontally-striped hoodie jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
