ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The St. Louis Police Rapid Response Team wrapped up its first full weekend of patrols in an effort to reduce crime.

Police say it appears the new task force is working because there were no problems in the Delmar Loop over the weekend.

The Rapid Response Team consists of 24 officers who work the streets every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. The team targets some of the busiest areas of the city, including the Delmar Loop.

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said he is making his officers more visible to help fight crime.

The team was deployed after an increase in violence involving teens and young adults, specifically in the Delmar Loop and on the MetroLink.

“Setting the tone for the summer so people know when you come to the city you're gonna see police officers and if you obey the laws we're gonna have no problems if you break the laws we're gonna take action,” Chief Dotson said.

Chief Dotson said he is working with Metro to put more officers on trains to prevent violence on the MetroLink as well.

The Rapid Response Team will operate through the end of summer.
