Massive fire destroys Metro East home on Easter Sunday

TROY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A massive fire destroyed a Metro East home on Easter Sunday.

The home, located in the Castle Ridge Neighborhood in Troy, Illinois, was completely destroyed by the blaze. Fire officials believe high winds and a fire pit may have been the cause of the fire after an ember floated onto the roof and sparked the flame.

The home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene. Multiple crews responded, including Troy, Glen Carbon, and Maryville fire departments. As crews attempted to subdue the flames, the winds gusted, forcing the firefighters to take a defensive stance.

Officials say other homes in the area are not at risk and firefighters remained on the scene to combat various hotspots throughout the day.
