Rapid Response Team hits St. Louis streets

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- The St. Louis Police Department's Rapid Response Team hit the streets for its first Friday in service.

The team debuted last Sunday and puts 24 officers on the streets working Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights in some of the busiest streets in the area.

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said he's making his officers more visible by wearing highly reflective vests.

The changes come after an increase in violence involving teenagers and young adults, specifically in the Delmar Loop and MetroLink.

"As the weather gets warmer and more people come out, I want them to know it's okay to come to the city," Dotson said. "Enjoy coming to the city, but we have an expectation that you behave and follow the laws."
