(KMOV.com) – Federal authorities are launching hate crime investigations into the beating of a man on MetroLink, and into an assault on former Cardinals' player Curt Ford.

Cell phone video captured the beating of a man on Metro Link March 23. The victim said one of the suspects asked to use his phone, but the victim decline. The victim said the suspect then asked him what he thought of the Michael Brown situation. When the victim said he had not thought much about it, the suspect then allegedly began to punch him.

Video showed two other men participating in the assault. A 15-year-old juvenile and 21-year-old Ronald Williams were arrested and charged in connection with the incident. Williams was charged with third degree assault. The victim later told News 4 he though the attack was racially motivated.

Police said former Cardinals player Curt Ford was attacked by 37-year-old James Street at a gas station in Fenton. According to police, Street yelled racial slurs and hit Ford at a Petro Mart in the 600 block of Gravois Bluffs in Fenton.

Street was charged with one count of assault motivated by discrimination in the third degree.
