Residents of South City neighborhood waiting for promised crime cameras

SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

Residents of the Fox Park neighborhood are waiting for surveillance cameras that were promised months ago to be turned on.

Cameras have been put up in Fox Park, but 6th Ward Alderwoman Christine Ingrassia said they are not operational. In November, Ingrassia said cameras would soon be put up and operational. Her comments came after two teenagers walking home from the park were shot.

“They need to cut down on crime and if that is by putting up surveillance cameras, they should do everything they possibly can to keep the neighborhood safe and the people who live in it,” said resident Brittany Westrich.

The plan calls for four cameras to be placed in the park. Officials said the cameras would not be monitored 24/7, but would be triggered when there is a call for crime in and around the park.

Residents told News 4 they want the camera project to be completed sooner rather than later. Ingrassia said a subcontractor will soon be coming out to hook up the cameras.
