ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Firefighters battled a 3-alarm blaze that affected six apartment units in west St. Louis County early Thursday morning.

The fire began around 2:30 a.m. on the balcony of the Oxford Hills Apartments, officials say.

At least 21 units had to be evacuated.

The Red Cross has been called in to assist displaced families.

There are no reports of injuries. 

It is unknown what caused the fire.
