FENTON, Mo. (KMOV,com) -

A man is in custody after allegedly attacking former Cardinals outfielder Curt Ford and yelling racial slurs.

According to St. Louis County Police, James Street, 37, was seen hitting Ford in surveillance from the Petro Mart in the 600 block of Gravois Bluffs in Fenton.

Prosecutors charged Street with one count of assault motivated by discrimination in the third degree, a class D felony.

Ford played six seasons in the majors, starting with the Cardinals in 1985 and ending with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1990. Ford replaced former Cardinals teammate Jack Clark as the Springfield Slider's field manager in 2010, but recently entered retirement.

Street is being held on a $15,000 bond.
