ST. LOUIS, Mo. ( - One person was shot near Union Station in downtown St. Louis following an altercation on the MetroLink platform at the Civic Center station Tuesday evening, police said.

A woman told police she and the 19-year-old suspect were engaged in an argument on the platform over a previous dispute.  The woman reportedly threatened the suspect with pepper spray before fleeing on Clark Street.

The suspect reportedly ran after the woman and fired at least one shot, striking a 17-year-old man in the stomach. That victim was located by police at the intersection of 18th and Clark with a gunshot wound to the stomach. Police did not state the connection between the woman and the shooting victim.

A witness told police the suspect and victim were in an argument with each other prior to the shooting. Police said the victim was not able to provide a statement due to his condition.

Responding officers saw the suspect running on Market Street and were able to take him into custody.  A gun was recovered near 20th and Market, police said.  Neither the suspect or the victim were identified by police Wednesday.
