FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The Ferguson City Council appointed Pam Hylton as its interim city manager Tuesday night.

Hylton takes over for outgoing city manager John Shaw who resigned in the wake of a US Department of Justice report that said the police department used tickets and citations to raise revenue for the city. Hylton has served as Assistant City Manager since 2011. At Tuesday's city council meeting, many members of the public demanded she be transparent in her new role.

Hylton will make $100,000 per year and will serve until a permanent replacement is found after election which are going to be held April 7.

Hylton did not speak to News 4. A city spokesperson said she was not yet prepared to speak to media.
