Bystander rescues two from car submerged in Metro East lake

Firefighters said a bystander rescued two people from a car that was submerged in a Caseyville lake.

Authorities said the accident occurred near the intersection of I-64 and Illinois State Route 157. According to firefighters, two cars collided, one went into a ditch, the other went into a lake and ended up in 15 feet of water. Two people were inside the car that went into the lake.

Firefighters said a nearby motorist saw what happened, jumped into the lake, and rescued the two people inside the car.  All three victims were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
