Police: Officer shoots suspect during covert police operation in St. Peters

ST. PETERS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Authorities said a St. Charles County police officer shot a suspect during a covert law enforcement operation in St. Peters.

Police said the shooting occurred at a home on Ticonderoga in St. Peters around 7:00 p.m. Monday.

According to authorities, St. Charles County Police were conducting an undercover operation with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives when the officer fired a shot, or shots, at a suspect. Police said the suspect was armed and pointed a gun at the officer before the shots were fired.

The 34-year-old suspect was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 38-year-old officer that fired the shot has 14 years of law enforcement experience, police said.

No officers were injured in the operation.

The St. Charles County Police Department is investigating the shooting.
