Patrols in the Loop to increase after weekend chaos

ST. LOUIS, Mo. ( -

Police patrols will increase after six arrests were made in the Delmar Loop on Saturday after fights among groups of teens spilled into the streets and culminated in gunfire.

Most of the arrests were made for either peace disturbance or failure to disperse, but a 15-year-old male suspect was taken into custody after officers observed him firing shots.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department told News 4 that visitors to the Loop can expect to see more city officers on patrol.

"There is going to be a city detail out there every weekend, 24 officers, not counting MetroLink and U City officers, who will be addressing what goes on out there," said Lieutenant Al Adkins of the city police department.

Joe Edwards, who owns several businesses in the Loop, said teens getting rowdy on the weekends is nothing new and expects the illegal behavior to slow down in the next few weeks.

City Police commanders said they have increased patrols in the Delmar Loop area over the past two or three years, and will continue to increase their patrols through the coming months.
