(KMOV.com) – Police say the number of fights among teens is increasing and one of the main factors may be social media.

On Saturday, police arrested six people as fights began in The Delmar Loop involving about 200 people and arrested a 15-year-old for firing a gun. Officers say the trouble this weekend was a continuation of trouble from last weekend as groups of teens converged on the area looking for fights.

“I don't believe it is gangs, [or] traditional gangs,” said St. Louis Police Major Jerry Leyshock. “These are individuals associating themselves with teams. It might be neighborhood related. It might be schools.”

A week ago, a 15-year-old girl was grazed by a bullet near the Delmar MetroLink Station in a large crowd of teens. Officers think that this week's violence in The Loop may be signaling a problem.

Police say they have a special detail patrolling The Loop on the St. Louis and U City sides for extra safety and security.
