Ferguson municipal court resumes after DOJ report

Posted: Updated:
FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Ferguson's municipal court will hold its first session since a Department of Justice report found the city has operated a profit-driven system that heightened tensions among residents for years before Michael Brown's killing.

Missouri Court of Appeals Judge Roy Richter will preside over the session Thursday night.

The judge who used to run the court was ousted after being identified in the federal report as one of several city officials who helped "fix" traffic tickets for colleagues and friends.Richter issued an order Wednesday barring cameras from the Ferguson courtroom in response to heavy media interest in the proceedings.

Court officials have instead set up a closed-circuit video feed for reporters in a Ferguson City Hall work room.
