SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

Authorities said a St. Louis County police officer was taken to a hospital after being dragged by a vehicle driven by shoplifting suspects.

Police said an officer got into a foot chase with a man who reportedly stole something from the JC Penney store at South County Center. According to authorities, the suspect jumped into the bed of the pick-up truck parked in the parking lot of a nearby St. Louis Bread Company restaurant. The driver of the truck was inside the vehicle at the time.

The officer then tried to grab the suspect from the truck bed, but the suspect grabbed the officer at the same time. As the two struggled, the driver began to drive away. Police said the officer was dragged for a short distance before he was able to free himself from the suspect's grip.

Another officer then chased the truck down and arrested the shoplifting suspect and the driver, who is also considered a suspect.

The officer was taken to a hospital but only suffered minor injuries.
