A local hotel is the center of an undercover sex sting with a 21-year-old man as the alleged mastermind.
Maryland Heights Police said Cody Swagulski admitted to acting as a pimp and operating a prostitute business at a hotel on Lackland Road. Swagulski is accused of booking the appointments and taking a large percentage of the profits in the operation.
Detectives did an undercover operation sting by responding to an advertisement Swagulski allegedly placed on backpage.com.
Last year, Sergeant Rich White said they took prostitution very seriously when another incident took place at a hotel close to the interstate involving alleged madam Linda Dupree.
"These specific cases have the propensity to be very dangerous," said Sgt. White. "For example, this one woman has been charged in the past for robbery. A lot of times these women are desperate because they're on drugs, and they can be very dangerous."
While the scenarios can be dangerous, they were also very profitable for Swagulski, who received 50% of the profits from appointments he booked, according to police.
Swagulski has been charged with promoting prostitution.
