St. Louis Fire Department called to IKEA site for gas leak

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The St. Louis fire department was called to the IKEA construction site around 7:15 Thursday morning in the 300 block of S. Vandeventer for a 1000 gallon propane tank leak.

Employees on site self-evacuated the area when first alerted of the gas leak.

The St. Louis fire department will remain on scene until the propane tank empties. According to air samples firefighters have been taking, there is no danger within 30 feet of the tank. There were no reports of injuries. It's also not known what caused the leak.

Traffic and businesses in the surrounding area have not been affected. IKEA has since suspended work operations for the rest of the day.
