Man arrested with more than 2,600 doses of heroin

WASHINGTON PARK (KMOV) -- A man with 2,600 doses of heroin was arrested on Friday in Washington Park with $6,000 cash and three guns in his possession.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that 29-year-old Mark Day, St. Louis, was taken into custody by the Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southwestern Illinois 

MEGSI Director Joe Beliveau said Day had more than 2,600 "buttons" of heroin that he was selling to customers from his car window.

A button is a capsule containing heroin that sells for $10 to $20. 

Day has been charged with a drug trafficking felony that carries a maximum sentence of 80 years in prison. He was being held at the St. Clair County Jail with bail set at $500,000.

Police moved in on Day while several customers' cars were lined up along the roadway. When they approached, Day sped away, but he crashed into a ditch. His vehicle it a MEGSI vehicle, but there were no injuries.
