Man critically wounded in officer-involved shooting in Wellston

WELLSTON (KMOV) -- A Wellston police officer shot and critically wounded a man during a traffic stop Saturday morning, according to St. Louis County Police Department.
The shooting occurred as the officer pulled over the vehicle near the intersection of Morton and Page for a traffic violation at 10:15 a.m.
As the officer questioned the driver, a passenger climbed into the driver's seat and made an attempt to drive away. The officer then got into the vehicle from the passsenger side. The vehicle took off at a high-rate of speed and the officer fired three shots at the suspect.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and stopped near the intersection of Chatham and Morton.
The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and transported to a hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
The officer was also transported to a hospital for treatment.
