(CNN) -- You could soon learn your risk for diabetes during a visit to the dentist.
A recent study published in the American Journal of Public Health showed that dentists could use the blood from your mouth to test for diabetes.
They found the results were about the same as the ones they received using finger stick blood.
It is estimated that 8 million out of the 29 million Americans living with diabetes are undiagnosed. Many Americans visit a dental provider, but not a primary care provider.
