FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV.com)-- Charges were filed Monday against the Orient Police Chief as a result of two separate incidents on Saturday, February 21.

Police Chief Joseph L. Brown, 39, was arrested after complaints at the American Legion Post and Elsie's Tavern in Orient, Illinois.

Sheriff deputies arrived at Phillip Whiteside American Legion Post after employees and patrons reported that Brown had arrived at the club in an intoxicated condition and made threats while brandishing a handgun. Brown had already left the club by the time deputies arrived.

Deputies late spoke to employees of Elsie's Tavern who reported similar acts prior to leaving the establishment for the American Legion Post, which is located very close to the Elsie's Tavern.

Brown was eventually taken into custody without incident on Monday, February 23 at the Sheriff's Office.

An investigation into the incidents is ongoing and other charges are possible pending the completion of the investigation and review by the State's Attorney Office.
